Ambiance & landscapes
The North Rim of the Grand Canyon seduces with its calm, forested atmosphere. Ponderosa pines dominate an elevated plateau where fresh air contrasts with the heat of the depths. Cliffs drop abruptly towards mesas and buttes in vivid red and ochre. Around Kanab, landscapes change dramatically: pink sand dunes, eroded rock formations and narrow canyons create a lunar setting. Silence reigns, disturbed only by wind or an eagle in flight. Sunsets paint the sky in purple and golden tones, offering unforgettable images. This less-visited area allows total immersion in preserved, majestic nature.
Things to see and do
Visitors can explore Bright Angel Point for immediate plunging views, Cape Royal with its easy trail and panoramas of the Temple of Vishnu, or Point Imperial, the highest point on the North Rim. The North Kaibab Trail hike leads several kilometres towards the canyon floor. Near Kanab, discover Buckskin Gulch slot canyons, Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park for quad biking or walking, and Zion National Park accessible on a day trip. These sites offer varied experiences between observation and active adventure.

In Kanab, local tables offer revisited American specialities. Try juicy bison burgers at Rocking V Cafe or spicy Navajo tacos at Escobar’s. Local beef steaks and fresh salads made with seasonal produce often feature on the menu. For drinks, craft beers from Kanab Creek Brewery perfectly accompany dinner. Cafés also serve excellent breakfasts with fluffy pancakes and fresh coffee. These establishments offer comforting cuisine after a day of exploration.
Transport & access
The North Rim is mainly accessible by car from Las Vegas or Page via Highway 89 then Route 67. The latter closes in winter due to snow, limiting access between November and May. Plan fuel as stations are scarce on the route.
