Why the choice of zone is essential in Corsica
Corsica stretches 183 kilometres from north to south, offering varied geography between coastal plains, mountain ranges rising to 2 706 metres and a coastline of more than 1 000 kilometres. The Mediterranean climate brings dry hot summers, mild winters and rainfall concentrated in spring and autumn. Transport relies on the airports of Ajaccio, Bastia and Calvi, complemented by ferry ports linking Marseille, Toulon and Nice. Winding roads and the Corsican train make travel slow, making the choice of base essential. Staying in the right zone avoids exhausting journeys and allows you to fully enjoy the local beaches, villages and hikes.
Ajaccio & South-West (Porticcio, Propriano)
Ajaccio and the south-west embody Corsican seaside elegance between the glittering gulf and verdant hills. The Napoleonic capital blends urban charm, citadel and lively seafront. Porticcio seduces with its sheltered coves and pine woods descending to the sea, while Propriano offers a lively port facing limestone cliffs and scented maquis. Sunsets set the horizon ablaze, creating a refined and wild atmosphere ideal for travellers seeking serenity and authenticity. This zone combines island culture, preserved nature and fine sandy beaches.
Bastia & Cap Corse (Saint-Florent)
Bastia and Cap Corse reveal an authentic north between vibrant port and wild headland. The citadel overlooks the colourful seafront facades while the Cap reveals pebble coves, perched villages and coastal paths bathed in light. Saint-Florent offers an elegant marina at the end of its turquoise gulf. The maquis exhales myrtle and rosemary, contrasting with port urbanity. This region promises immersion away from the crowds in a raw and refined setting, perfect for lovers of preserved nature and soft light.

When to visit Corsica
The high season from April to October offers the best sunshine and access to the beaches. June and September combine moderate warmth, sea at ideal temperature and reduced crowds. July-August guarantee perfect weather but require advance bookings. Spring and autumn suit hiking and discovering villages, with soft light and gentler rates. Winter remains pleasant on the coast but some mountain roads may be closed.
Practical tips for your stay
Car hire remains essential to explore the island freely. Ferries and planes provide easy access to the main ports and airports. The euro is the official currency and bank cards are widely accepted. Corsica is safe, but beware of winding roads. Taste the local specialities : charcuterie, cheeses, olive oil and Corsican wines in restaurants and markets. Book high-end accommodation several months in advance, especially in summer.
