Ambiance & landscapes
Corniglia charms with its peaceful and authentic atmosphere, perched 100 metres above the sea. Stone houses in ochre and pink cling to terraces planted with vines and olives, creating a vivid tableau of bright colours. Steep cliffs plunge into turquoise waters while the setting sun bathes the village in golden light. Paved lanes bordered by lemon trees and bougainvillea invite unhurried strolls. Far from crowds, one hears mainly wind and birds, offering a striking contrast with livelier Cinque Terre villages. This preserved setting evokes timeless and rustic Italy.
Things to see and do
Explore the 14th-century church of San Pietro with its slender bell tower and ancient frescoes. Climb to the Belvedere di Corniglia for unbeatable coastal views. Follow a section of the Sentiero Azzurro towards Manarola or Vernazza. Taste local wines during a visit to the terraced vineyards. Swim at the small beach reached by stairs or kayak along the cliffs. Visit the sea cemetery and its graves facing the sea for a contemplative pause. These activities reveal the raw and serene beauty of the village.
Where to eat and drink
Corniglia restaurants offer authentic Ligurian specialities. Enjoy focaccia al formaggio, fresh pesto on trofie or grilled seafood paired with Cinque Terre white wine. Terraces offer sea views during the meal. Try the local osteria for simple dishes such as marinated anchovies or torta di verdure. Bars serve sciacchetrĂ , the typical sweet wine, ideal as an aperitif. The atmosphere remains family-friendly and convivial.
Transport & access
